About our Volunteers

Martin Thain

Commodore

About:
I hadn't planned on taking up sailing but back in 2007 when I went on a level 2 course with some people from work and learned to sail in Wayfarers and Toppers. I liked it so much that I eventually bought a boat and joined the club. I currently sail A Solo - one of the pretty all wood ones.

Dawn Birnie

Secretary

About:
Found on a Safety boat for Racing on a nice night (Hiding in the car from Martin if it’s raining!). And when I’m not playing taxi to Jack and his sailing activities I like to run and hill walk. Quite enjoy getting out on a Paddle Board too!

Web / Social Media, Memberships & Maintenance

About:
I learnt to sail with my school in P5 and have continued up with my sailing from oppies now up to a 29er (usually upside down). Aswell as being an instructor with Ast and BOD Sea Cadets I also manage club membership, dinghy parking, social media and website. I enjoy everything outdoors related!

John Reeve

Treasurer
About:
Always competitive to the first mark, but somehow blow up and come in last. I need to work on my tactics for the full course of the race. That's my plan for 2022! The key is to get on the water, and that said we as a club shouldn't let the parents be stranded on the beach. Get involved!

Sailing Secretary
About:
Most likely found sitting with a laptop dealing with results, pottering around helping with various tasks or just enjoying a good blether with folk.

About:
Your most likely to find me sailing in the bay or around the clubhouse. My best sailing memory is my first time trying the trapeze on our 29er! When i’m not out sailing I play the guitar.
