Monday Youth Group

It's been a great summer for sailing and Monday afternoons have been busy and fun.  Usually Monday afternoon sailing finishes at the end of the summer holidays but everyone wanted to keep going this year so we moved to the later time of 4:30 so we could fit in a session after school.

Now that we are reaching the end of October we are running out of daylight but not enthusiasm.  We are planning to keep going over the winter months with shore based sessions and we hope to see you from 4:30 - 6:30 each Monday.

 Why are we doing this?

We recognise that Monday group sailors are also our volunteers, instructors and coaches of the future.  Winter sessions are a great way pick up knowledge and skills needed to go further in the sport.

Some of you have already completed practical powerboat sessions and we would be looking to cover some of the theory needed to pass a direct assessment for RYA level 2 certificate next season.

Working on activities together is fun and also a good way to think about the team work and people skills required for instructor and coaching roles.

Sailing can be more than just a fun activity for some.  Whether that's about success in the sport, career choices or a big adventure.  We hope to introduce you to some people who have taken their interest in sailing to the next level.

In June 2024 it's the annual Aberdeenshire Schools Regatta and we want to see a good strong team from Peterhead ready to compete.  Over the winter we can cover some of the knowledge that you will need for racing and get you back on the water in the spring as soon as the weather allows.

How will it work?

Emphasis will be on fun and social activities.  We will keep knowledge sessions short and to the point.

There will be lots of practical sessions where you can make and repair things.

We will be inviting interesting people from the world of boating to tell us about what they do and how they got there.

We have some very exciting visits lined up to local organisations involved in activities on the water.  Can't share until these are confirmed but we will keep you updated.

To stop things getting too serious there will be plenty time for fun activities like quiz sessions, pizza and movies (sailing themed of course..)
