Meet The Team
Jack Walls
Commodore
commodore@peterheadsailingclub.org
About: I learnt to sail with my school in P5 on a school trip with Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust and continued sailing with the sailing club and Bridge Of Don Sea Cadets. I took over as commodore of Peterhead Sailing Club in October 2024.
Dawn Birnie
Secretary
About: I’ve been a member for about 6 years now, been secretary for the past 3. I am happy to remain in this position unless someone else would like to give it a try. We have a great committee that have worked hard to increase membership and create a really inclusive and friendly club and it’s great to be part of this!
John Reeve
Treasurer
About: John Reeve, a casual sailor who is looking for some fun sailing. I have been an active club member for a number years and have held the treasurer position since the end of 2022. There is not a lot to say about it really and I am happy to continue with the role. After chasing some savings this last year, my next target is to ensure we have a simple set of understandable accounts which are available for scrutiny and audit.
Martin Thain
Membership Secretary
About: I hadn't planned on taking up sailing but back in 2007 when I went on a level 2 course with some people from work and learned to sail in Wayfarers and Toppers. I liked it so much that I eventually bought a boat and joined the club. I currently sail A Solo - one of the pretty all wood ones.
Karen Mcara
Safeguarding Officer
About: I've been Welfare Officer for the last 3 years. I look after the PVG process, any welfare concerns and safe guarding (which thankfully are very rare). My boys are both involved at the club and it has been nice for me to be able to give something back. I really enjoy being involved with the club and seeing how it is developing and evolving
Chloe Cameron
Committee Member
About: I’ve been a committee member for a couple years now find it very rewarding.
My children are avid sailors, more specifically on a windsurf/foil these days but they began sailing dinghies and still enjoy an occasional sail in a dinghy. I’m very much an onshore member, so joining the committee is a way of giving back, by contributing my time to a club that has such a positive influence on our family.
Mike Bowyer
Committee Member
Freda Marshall
Sailing Secretary
About: Most likely found sitting with a laptop dealing with results, pottering around helping with various tasks or just enjoying a good blether with folk.
