Aberdeenshire & City Schools Regatta Weekend 2026 - The Bluetoon Trophy -

About The Event

The Aberdeenshire & City Schools Regatta is a friendly and well‑supported schools sailing event in its 13th year. Held each year in Peterhead Bay, its run jointly by Peterhead Sailing Club and Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust, the weekend is designed to introduce young sailors to racing in a relaxed and encouraging environment while still offering exciting and competitive sailing.

Across the weekend, sailors can take part in coached training sessions to build confidence, learn race skills and practise on the water before putting those skills into action on regatta day. The event is open to sailors who are able to sail independently and are keen to try or develop racing, whether they are completely new to competition or already have some experience.

Our aim is to provide a safe, enjoyable and memorable experience for every sailor, with plenty of support from qualified coaches, instructors and volunteers both on and off the water.

The Regatta

The Regatta day is a full day of sail racing held in the bay at Peterhead. Sailors will represent their school and take part in a series of races run by the team.

The day is open to sailors who are able to sail independently and have a basic understanding of race starts and rules. The focus is on providing a positive and enjoyable racing experience, with plenty of support available on and off the water.

A registration and briefing will take place at the start of the day before sailors launch. Racing will run through the day with a middle lunch break. Boats are available for hire and volunteers and instructors will be on hand to help with launching, recovery and any issues that arise.

Sailors do not need to have attended the training weekend to take part in regatta day.

Training Weekend

The training weekend is designed to help sailors build confidence and develop the skills needed for racing. It is optional, but highly recommended for those who are new to racing or would like some extra practice before regatta day.

Across the two days, sailors will work with qualified race coaches from Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust. Sessions will focus on boat handling, race starts, mark rounding, simple tactics and understanding the basics of racing rules, all delivered in a supportive and encouraging environment.

The training is suitable for sailors of mixed ability who can sail independently. Boats can be provided if required during sign up and there is no expectation that sailors attending the training weekend must also enter the regatta.
