13th Aberdeenshire & City Schools Regatta
Peterhead Sailing Club was delighted to host the 13th Aberdeenshire & City Schools Regatta, welcoming young sailors from across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire for a weekend of training and racing.
This year's event saw a record 39 sailors representing 20 schools, making it the largest schools regatta in the event's history. Competitors travelled from across the North East to take part, sailing a wide range of boats including Optimists, Toppers, Lasers, RS Fevas, RS Quests, RS Zests, Hansas, a Fusion and a Laser 2000.
Following a breezy training weekend, sailors enjoyed more settled conditions for the regatta itself as they competed for the prestigious Bluetoon Trophy. The standard of sailing was excellent throughout, with sailors demonstrating determination, sportsmanship and skill on the water.
Cults Academy claimed the overall Bluetoon Trophy, while Culter Primary School took home the Primary School Trophy. Fleet winners included Emily in the Topper Fleet, Ruben in the PY Fleet and Harry in the Laser Fleet. The Endeavour Award was presented to Conrad and Torin in recognition of their effort and commitment throughout the event.
Beyond the racing, the regatta continues to provide an important opportunity for young people to develop confidence, learn new skills and build friendships through sailing. Bringing together sailors from a diverse range of schools and backgrounds, the event highlights the strength of youth sailing across the North East and helps encourage future participation in the sport.
The regatta would not have been possible without the support of a dedicated team of volunteers. More than 25 volunteers from Peterhead Sailing Club, Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust, ASYC, RYA Scotland, Bridge of Don Sea Cadets, Peterhead Sea Cadets and East Kilbride Sea Cadets contributed their time and expertise to deliver a safe and successful event.
Peterhead Sailing Club would also like to thank our event sponsors, supporters, parents, coaches, safety crews and all those who worked behind the scenes to make the regatta possible.
Most importantly, congratulations to all 39 sailors who took part. Their enthusiasm and commitment continue to make the Aberdeenshire & City Schools Regatta a highlight of the youth sailing calendar in the North East.
