Wooden Spoon Hansa Launch

Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust were delighted to welcome Norman Fiddes from Wooden Spoon Charity and World Champion in the Hansa class Rory McKinna to launch our brand new Wooden Spoon Hansa 303.

This boat will open up more opportunities for wheelchair users and sailors with limited mobility, making sailing in Peterhead even more inclusive.

During the ribbon cutting Norman shared: “The grassroots of Wooden Spoon is being the underdog - the wooden spoon was once the prize for last place, but our founders turned it into a trophy.” We’re proud to carry that spirit forward and help more people get out on the water.

Rory then cut the ribbon with his penknife (used at many world championships!) and shared top tips with our Hansa sailors both on and off the water.

Huge thanks to everyone who came along to ‘launch’ this boat. And a thanks for Leon Ward from RYA Scotland and Rory Mckinna for coming afloat with us to sail our Hansas in the afternoon.

Thanks to Coastal Cakes and Bakes for making an awesome Hansa cake.

Lots of awesome photos below showing the launch event and afternoon sailing action!
