Youth Takes The Helm

Earlier this month, we hosted our Annual General Meeting and Prizegiving. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on another successful year, recognise the achievements of our members and volunteers and look ahead to the future of the club.

One of the key moments of the evening was the announcement that our Club Commodore, Martin Thain, had decided the time was right to step down from the role after four years in this busy position.

Over the past four years, Martin has played a huge role in shaping Peterhead Sailing Club. Under his leadership, the club has continued to grow and develop, creating new opportunities for members and strengthening its position as a welcoming and inclusive club for sailors of all ages. From supporting youth sailing and volunteer development to helping drive new initiatives and projects, Martin's influence can be seen across all aspects of the club.

His commitment to youth development and club activities was recently recognised with an RYA Scotland Impact Award, celebrating the lasting difference he has made both on and off the water. While stepping down as Commodore, Martin will thankfully remain on the committee, continuing to support the club in his new role as Membership Secretary. On behalf of everyone at Peterhead Sailing Club, we would like to thank him for the countless hours, dedication and enthusiasm he has given to the club and look forward to continuing to work alongside him.

The AGM also marked the beginning of a new chapter as Jack Walls was elected as our new Commodore. A familiar face around the marina and a long-standing member of the club, Jack first got involved with sailing through a school taster session before progressing through the club and Bridge Of Don Sea Cadets.

Over the years, Jack has taken on a variety of volunteer and leadership roles, becoming a Senior Instructor, committee member and a key part of many club activities and events. His journey from a young sailor trying the sport for the first time to leading the club as Commodore reflects the opportunities that sailing and volunteering at Peterhead Sailing Club can provide.

Jack takes on the role with a strong understanding of the club, its members and its ambitions for the future. We look forward to seeing his ideas and enthusiasm help shape the next chapter of Peterhead Sailing Club.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the AGM. It was great to see so many members there, and congratulations to all of our prize winners.

Thank you once again to all our members, volunteers and supporters for your continued commitment to Peterhead Sailing Club. Together, we continue to build a club that is active, welcoming and thriving both on and off the water.
