Big Bear Voyage Visits Peterhead Sailing Club

Peterhead Sailing Club was delighted to welcome the crew of the Big Bear Voyage 2026 during their visit to Peterhead, giving members the opportunity to meet Pudsey Bear and learn more about an incredible journey taking place around the UK in support of BBC Children in Need.

Although Peterhead Sailing Club may be a relatively small club, it certainly packs a punch. Our members were pleased to welcome Pudsey Bear alongside Big Bear Voyage skipper Jonathan Brewin, who shared the story behind their remarkable 2,200-mile circumnavigation of the United Kingdom.

The voyage will see the crew sail around England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, visiting communities in all four nations where BBC Children in Need provides vital support to children and young people. Members enjoyed hearing about the challenges of the expedition and learning more about the impressive yacht carrying Pudsey around Britain—a 16-metre J/160 built by J/Boats in Newport, Rhode Island.

It was fantastic to showcase everything Peterhead Sailing Club has to offer. From our welcoming membership to our unique sailing waters within Peterhead Port's vast and busy harbour, visitors were impressed by our location. Launching directly from our sandy beach was described as "perfect" by Pudsey, and it was wonderful to share our club with such enthusiastic ambassadors for sailing and fundraising.

Of course, Pudsey was the star attraction, bringing plenty of smiles as members and visitors took the opportunity to meet everyone's favourite bear.

The Big Bear Voyage crew certainly weren't slowing down after leaving the club. On Saturday 4 July they continued their packed schedule with a visit to PACT's event in Victoria Park, followed by a visit to a local care home before rounding off the day at Zippos Circus.
