Youth Boat Refurb Project

Last year the club was offered an older Laser that had seen better days and was no longer in use. One of our junior members decided to take it on as a refurbishment project and has spent almost a year bringing it back to life.

The hull was stripped back, repaired and repainted in yellow to match the boat’s original gelcoat colour. Fittings were refurbished, resealed and carefully rebuilt, with plenty of members helping along the way with advice, tools and materials — although the project has very much been his own from start to finish.

With support from funding from the Buchan Youth Panel, the boat was given some final upgrades including an XD kicker and a Radial sail.

One of the nicest touches came from the boat’s history. When it first arrived it was covered in stickers from club memberships and events over the years. These were scanned and reproduced on fresh vinyl so that part of the boat’s story could live on after the refurbishment.

A fantastic job and a great example of the skills and commitment of our younger members. We hope you have many great sails in it.
